DOTTIE adopts a cheerful demeanor upon reaching AUNTIE MAMA.

Hi, Auntie Mama, I was just on my—!
It happens so quickly that she does not see it coming. AUNTIE MAMA, suddenly and swiftly, slaps DOTTIE with a resounding SMACK across the face!
The force of the blow causes DOTTIE to stagger back to the edge of the stairway. She catches hold of the handrail to save herself from falling and regain her balance.
HAROLD, GERI, and FAYARD are appalled and shocked at AUNTIE MAMA’s unprovoked attack of DOTTIE.
HAROLD
Hey, what's your problem, lady?!
She's done nothing wrong! You had
no right to hit her!
He starts toward the stairway. FAYARD grabs his arm, stopping him.
FAYARD
Steady…
DOTTIE presses a hand to her smarting cheek, stares hard at AUNTIE MAMA. A current of hostility flows between them that is almost palpable.
