EXT. HOWARD THEATRE—BACKSTAGE ALLEY. DAY.

HAROLD watches helplessly as DOTTIE walks resolutely toward the stairway. 

FAYARD and GERI watch her with somber and sympathetic expressions.

As DOTTIE comes up the stairway, AUNTIE MAMA, her eyes flashing fire, waits on the STAGE DOOR landing.  She is as rigidly tense as a wild animal poised to spring for the throat of its vulnerable prey.
