He strikes up the ORCHESTRA, which sails smoothly into the infectious, pulsating, gospel-flavored Pop blues tones of the 6TH CONTEMPORARY HIT SONG.

DOTTIE begins SINGING fervently like she is preaching to a congregation of recent converts.  VIVIAN and ETTA have her back in a testifying harmony worthy of an Amen!

The CROWD is suddenly possessed with happy feet, as if “hit by the Spirit.” 

They erupt in a mass hysteria of bopping, whirling, and swinging-out on the dance floor.

The joint is jumping.  BLACK and WHITE COUPLES, who mere seconds ago were a hiccup away from a Race War, are now shaking their tail feathers side by side with unbridled passion.

The TWO REDNECK DEPUTIES, running about the dance floor, are swept aside by the wildly dancing WHITE COUPLES that they vainly attempt to herd back to the White Section.

THE DANDRIDGE SISTERS bring the SONG home to a big finish. 

The CROWD—including the woozy AUNTIE MAMA—breaks into THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE, HOOTS, and WHISTLES.

DOTTIE beams joyfully as wave after wave of ROLLING APPLAUSE washes over her.
