EXT. ROOMING HOUSE. NIGHT.

It is a two-story Victorian affair; the most impressive dwelling in the Black section of town.

Title:  Covington, Georgia.

Cars line the long driveway, including RUBY’s Model T, which is parked at the end.  The HAND-PAINTED SIGN on the front lawn reads:

MISS MARINA’S ROOMING HOUSE
FOR RESPECTABLE COLORED FOLKS

EXT. STREET. NIGHT.

Tranquil.  Not a soul is stirring.  CHIRPING CRICKETS. A long moment passes.  Suddenly a TRUCK TEARS around the corner.

The HEADLIGHTS of the truck zigzag wildly along the street directly toward us before coming to a SCREECHING halt.

A WHISKEY BOTTLE flies out of the darkness—SMASHING TO SMITHEREENS on the hand-painted sign.
