INT. MODEL T—DRIVING. DAY.

RUBY is driving.  AUNTIE MAMA dozes beside her.  DOROTHY and VIVIAN do their schoolwork in the rear seat.

DOROTHY’s eyes glaze over with boredom as she reads POLLYANNA.  VIVIAN expertly solves a series of multiplication problems in a Math workbook.

DOROTHY pulls a sidelong glance at VIVIAN before surreptitiously removing a magazine from her work folder and slipping it between the pages of her English primer.  

Her face brightens as she stares at the cover.

It is the January 1932 PHOTOPLAY, the glossy American film fan magazine, featuring a pastel illustration of GRETA GARBO and the incredible hunk of his day, CLARK GABLE.  GABLE’s face is in profile. He worshipfully gazes at Garbo with lovesick puppy dog eyes.  The bold caption at the bottom of the cover reads HOLLYWOOD’S CRUELTY TO GRETA GARBO.
