                        VIVIAN
       Who—those jive characters?
 
                       DOROTHY
       Let's give them something to talk 
       about.  Let's spice it up a bit.
 
                        VIVIAN
                (to DOROTHY, warily)
       Auntie Mama won't like it.
 
                       DOROTHY
       What's the matter?  Chicken?
 
                        VIVIAN
       Yeah—and I look good in those feathers.

THE DANDRIDGE SISTERS sashay downstage, smiling brightly, aiming their voices directly at the FOUR CLASSMATES.

DOROTHY goes into full vamp mode during her solo.  She tosses a coquettish wave to the FOUR CLASSMATES.  They wave back to her, chuckling.

INT. HOWARD THEATRE—STAGE LEFT WINGS. DAY.

A gaggle of PERFORMERS clap along to the music and cheer on THE DANDRIDGE SISTERS. 

But AUNTIE MAMA, standing apart from the others, is having none of it.  She wears an expression of cold disapproval on her face.
