WHITE FAMILIES watching the movie on the main floor.

BLACK FAMILIES watching the movie in the balcony.

DOROTHY and VIVIAN share a box of popcorn in the first row aisle seats of the balcony.

DOROTHY watches the early talkie with rapt attention, absolutely spellbound. 

RUBY appears in the aisle next to them, whispering:

       Ten minutes to Showtime, girls.
 
                       DOROTHY
               (eyes glued to the 
                screen, pleading)
       Oh, Mother, please just a little 
       while longer.  It just started.  
       It's getting close to my favorite
