INT. HOWARD THEATRE—STAGE—CLOSE ON. DAY.

DOROTHY, SINGING lead, and absolutely glowing in the spotlight.  She feels liberated.  Happiness and exuberance sparkle from the core of her being as she performs the number.  She is the shining star of the trio.

And she has HAROLD’s interest and undivided attention.  He cannot take his eyes off of her.  LOLA pulls an annoyed look at HAROLD as he gazes keenly down at DOROTHY.  She pouts sulkily.

DOROTHY, performing, teases the FOUR CLASSMATES with a beckoning finger.  The 1ST CLASSMATE loses his cool and lunges towards the stage.  GASPS!

HAROLD steels himself on the edge of his seat as if he is prepared to leap to DOROTHY’s defense from the proscenium box.
